Be Skincare is not just a business; it's a lifestyle. We live by the credo that we can all "be the change we want to see in the world" by simply educating ourselves about what we put in and on our bodies. And when we choose natural products or purchase from eco-friendly and humane companies, we are not only owning our health, but also supporting a sustainable environment.
After years of using products that damaged my skin and health, I searched and searched for products that were both all natural AND effective, and I finally found my "must-have's." I have been using these products every day for many years and truly believe they are a large part of why I feel and look so healthy:
Shea Moisture Body Wash: Soaps often dry out my skin, but I definitely like a body wash that really cleans, you know? And this one does just that, while not stripping away the moisture in my skin. I use the frankincense and myrrh scent because it's not too flowery and not too musky. I love this whole company--what they make, what they stand for, and mostly how they embody being "the change." The man who founded it started out by selling his grandmother's all natural recipe on the streets of Harlem. Very cool story--check it out.
Tom's of Maine Toothpaste: This is a well established company with a great reputation for using natural ingredients and giving back to the planet. They also disclose all ingredients as well, which is a HUGE requirement for me when I purchase all natural products. I like the antiplaque & whitening toothpaste; it's smooth, no gritty taste, and leaves my teeth feeling sparkly clean!
Evan Healy Clay: If you haven't heard of Evan Healy, then you are definitely missing out. I found her products at Whole Foods when I was desperately looking for a cleanser to heal my 30-year-old, hormone-induced cystic acne. Everything seemed to make my acne worse, until I tried the Blemish Face Care Kit. Right now I am using her French Rose Clay as a daily exfoliator on my face, which is a far better alternative to glycolic acid, especially for sensitive skin like mine. And of course, Evan embodies being "the change" as a holistic healer and aesthetician. Check out her story.
Thayers Lavender Witch Hazel Alcohol Free Toner: I have never been a big fan of toner, mainly because most of the toners I have tried either don't do much or make my face sting! That was until I discovered Thayers' toner. With plant-based ingredients at a reasonable price, this toner is gentle on my skin and wallet. It truly does the trick, removing any residual make-up or dirt on my face after I have washed it. I also like how it evens out my skin tone. This is another great company that stands by its "effective, natural remedies."
The Healthy Deodorant by Lavanila Laboratories: My sister and I have a love-hate relationship with deodorant. We love how it keeps us from smelling like stale milk, but hate how it wears off and we smell like stale milk. More importantly, with deodorant so close to our ta-ta's, we definitely don't want parabens and aluminum causing any raucous with our hormones. But, so many of the all natural deodorants out there just don't work (hence the stale milk syndrome). UNTIL, we found this deodorant, which not only smells so good the ENTIRE day you wear it, but also feels so silky, smooth going on. I especially love how adamant Lavanila is about its quality and chemical free products. Win-win!
Acure: I may have a lot of hair, but it is stringy and thin. Basically, it gets greasy if I don't wash it. So while I would love to be one of those women who doesn't wash her hair for three days and still looks marvelous, I just can't. If I am going to wash my hair almost every day, I need a shampoo and conditioner that won't saturate me with toxins or strip my hair of its natural moisture. Enter Acure! I LOVE all the ingredients in their shampoos and conditioners, especially the volume line, which awakens that thin, limp hair of mine. Best of all, their philosophy is that "we really all can change the world!" Yes. We. Can.
Honest Hand Soap: Who doesn't love this company? From their baby stuff to their bath and body line, The Honest Company makes some pretty awesome all natural products. My favorites right now are their lavender hand soap and their hand sanitizer spray. Both products never dry out my skin, they smell good, and I feel confident that they're not killing our planet. Thank goodness for companies that care!
Be Nourished and Be Renewed: Obviously, I have a personal bias here, but take it from someone who tried almost EVERY all natural lotion, body butter, and scrub and still wasn't satisfied; I just won't settle for moisturizers that are either ineffective or fill me with toxins. As a fair-skinned, strawberry blond, I have suffered from eczema, sunburns, and scaly skin, and the only remedy is exfoliating every day with Be Renewed and moisturizing with Be Nourished. Our ingredients are completely chemical free and pack a serious punch when it comes to restoring your body's natural moisture.
